gotcha...that is freakish. i don't really even understand the message...we've spent weeks talking about heritage vs. history in one of my classes and i still don't think i get it. i don't have a heritage.
My concern is the horrifying symbolism of the flag itself. I believe God still speaks to people - but the symbolism of the flag makes me pretty sure that this was not the case. The most charitable thing I can speculate is that these people spectacularly misinterpreted the message given.
Is "heritage" different from "tradition"? In what sense are they talking about "history"?
Is there some underlying truth in the Eagle clutching the symbol of Christianity in his talons?
Well, there are different levels of "truth" in history/heritage. So there's the Civil War reinactments and the story of Grandma's quilt, which is more heritage and not necessarily based on fact, but then of course historical scholarship is also not always based on fact.
