The 8 Mile soundtrack would probably be appropriate background music for this trip of yours.
Yes...frankly I would not visit most of those neighborhoods alone. The elderly professor who was guiding the tour kept making references to Eminem--it was cute.
Evidently Eminem's producers wanted to burn down a house in Detroit, but the City thought this would give them a bad image, so one of the neighboring towns let them if they would build two new ones to replace it.
We also passed a steel mill where he performed some obscene act or other--I haven't degraded myself by watching his videos.
