Most people do not operate logically. Adults put up a facade; children are innocent bundles of wants and emotions.
Example 1:
A: Push me!
M: But you were dragging your feet and twisting sideways so that you stopped. The purpose of pushing is to swing. If you don't want to swing, then you don't need me to push you.
A: PUUUSHHHH MEEEEE!!!!!!
Example 2:
A: There are chemicals in the bathroom!!!
M: Mommy must have left the 405 there.
A: You need to put it back in the plastic container in the basement so I don't swallow it!!!!!!
M: *thinks but wisely does not say* If you know where it belongs and you know that you shouldn't swallow it, does it really matter if it is sitting in the bathroom?
Example 3:
A: *lying on the couch whining* My pen won't work.
M: It is out of ink; come over here and we'll see if we can fix it or find another color.
A: *continues lying on the couch whining*
M: We can't do anything while you're on the couch.
A: *continues lying on the couch whimpering for an indeterminate time*

are you implying that i'm a wisenheimer? (note for those deprived souls without online access to the OED: this IS a word [albeit US slang]; my dad used it all the time when I was a kid and I though he had made it up. But it is a synonym for "wisacre" or "clever dick." Etymologically, "heimer" is a German name ending, as in "Oppenheimer.")
